Park City Lodging’s Sustainable Practices In Hospitality

Sustainability efforts in the hospitality industry have increased in recent years. At Park City Lodging, we have promised to better our environment since founding our company in 1984. In 2023, we are still committed to sustainability practices close to our hearts. Through community-focused initiatives, green building efforts, and energy-efficient technology, we strive to improve our world daily.

What Sustainability Efforts in Hospitality Look Like

“Sustainability” is a word that we hear every day. We understand that green initiatives can help reduce greenhouse gasses and water pollution, limit plastic waste, and diminish energy usage. However, while it’s easy to understand that paper is more environmentally friendly than hard plastics, it might be tricky to understand how sustainability practices work in the hospitality industry.

What is Sustainable Hospitality?

This is a holistic approach to minimizing harmful environmental effects while fostering the local and global community through social responsibility commitments. Regarding vacation rentals, sustainability efforts include energy-efficient practices, reduced water consumption, limited single-use plastics, and partnering with local non-profits.

Park City’s Lodging’s Sustainability Commitment

Improving our local and global environment is central to our brand identity. This passion has earned us multiple awards, including the prestigious Shortzy Award for Sustainability

We constantly strive to improve our rental properties, work environment, and  our community through innovative initiatives. Here are a few practices we have implemented to promote a brighter future for us all.

Limited Single Use Packaging

Guests can enjoy complimentary reusable grocery bags at check-in. Whether you are visiting our farmer’s market during the summer or shopping for souvenirs on Historic Main Street, you can take your handy reusable bag with you anywhere!

Our properties also provide guests reusable grocery bags as well as luxe bulk products, including our custom-blended shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Offering these bath products  negates the need for tiny plastic bottles that end up in landfills. In fact, Park City Lodging keeps 55,000 single plastic bottles out of landfills each year.

Water and Energy Conservation

Hospitality properties do a lot of laundry to keep sheets and towels sanitized and fresh for every guest. That can mean heavy water usage. In fact, some studies point out that hotels use 100-400 gallons of water per room daily. At Park City Lodging, our laundry system uses a state-of-the-art ozonator to reduce water consumption. It also helps diminish the use of both energy and detergent.

Speaking of energy output, our office building utilizes 52 solar panels and high-efficiency HVAC units to further offset energy consumption. As of spring, 2023, Park City Lodging solar panels have saved nearly 155,000 lbs. Of CO2 emissions, which is the equivalent of planting 1,172 trees.

Community Efforts

We believe in supporting our community through financial contributions and getting our hands dirty! We participate in Park City’s clean-up days, helping to keep our city beautiful.

Park City Lodging has donated over $100,000 to Summit Land Conservancy to forever protect the open spaces that we all love, with $1 of each room night going to this important local non-profit. As our guest, you are an integral part of an initiative to preserve our planet and improve our community—and we thank you!

We invite you to learn more about our other non-profit partnerships.
