Park City Destination Weddings

with Maxine Turner, Cuisine Unlimited

Wedding planning can be complicated, especially if your dream is to have a destination wedding. Yet looking through the eyes of couples planning weddings, Park City is as practical as it is romantic, the perfect canvas on which to create lifetime memories.

There are many gorgeous venues for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, celebrations and parties. Experienced and sophisticated providers offer world class capabilities for every level of service and attention to detail. From small and simple ceremonies and parties to grand scale productions for hundreds, it’s available here, making planning a destination wedding easy.

Starting with access: Park City is virtually in the middle of the country with frequent, easy, direct flights from both coasts into Salt Lake City International Airport. It’s a 35 minute transfer up to Park City, so you and your guests can spend less time and money traveling, and more time celebrating.

Maxine Turner of Cuisine Unlimited has considerable experience catering and producing events and weddings. She started Cuisine Unlimited in 1985 as a small deli and has since steadily built a thriving business as a full-service event provider in Utah and throughout the world. She enjoys working in Park City and describes a destination wedding she’s working on as a case in point:

The family from New York selected Blue Sky Ranch for the wedding in August. The 90 guest event is completely glatt kosher, which can add several degrees of complication to any event. Cuisine Unlimited has long been a reliable source of kosher catering, and recently they have expanded their service to be the only caterer in Utah with the capacity to do completely glatt kosher meals and service, so they are uniquely up for the challenge.

The term glatt kosher means that food and beverages conform to the strictest Jewish dietary regulations, or kashrut. Kashrut requires that meat and dairy may not cooked or served together, so in designing menus and planning for the service, plans must be meticulous. The kitchen must be entirely meat or dairy, and to change it from one to the other the services of a mashgiach are required. A mashgiach is a supervisor, often a rabbi, who oversees kosher kitchens to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized and that food is stored and prepared in compliance with kashrut.

For the August wedding, the family has chosen a dairy menu. Cuisine Unlimited has an agreement with Chabad of Utah for use of their kitchens. They are converting an otherwise meat kitchen into a dairy facility so they are bringing in a mashgiach from Los Angeles. He will oversee the kitchen changeover the Thursday prior to the Sunday wedding. Later that day, the wedding cake will be baked.  Thursday evening and Friday they will begin preparing the dinner. In observance of Shabbat the kitchen will be closed Friday evening and Saturday, then on Sunday they will complete the meal preparation and transport it to Blue Sky Ranch for the wedding and reception. All of the transportation, cookware and service ware must be inspected and cleaned in compliance with kashrut, so the mashgiach will be very busy. The rental company providing plates, flatware and glassware has agreed to provide brand new china service and any other necessary items. After the wedding, the mashgiach will supervise to transform the kitchen from dairy back to meat. Turner explains all this as a means to illustrate the extent of the resources available here, “Utah is really growing up,” she said.  Cuisine Unlimited

The wedding ceremony and reception are of course the focus of a destination wedding experience, yet other elements can be critical. Where everyone is staying is important and Park City Lodging has options to make planning easy for friends and families. Offering the comforts of home, condos provide opportunities for everyone to be in the same place yet have their own space and privacy. Park Station is a great example – it offers Hotel rooms, 1, 2, 3, and 5 bedroom condominiums, sleeping 2-12 people. There is an outdoor heated pool, and indoor and outdoor common area hot tubs, perfect for gathering and relaxing. Park Station is walking distance to Main Street’s dining, nightlife, shopping and entertainment. And it’s on the free area shuttle route, providing easy and convenient access to virtually everywhere you’d want to go.
