Over the summer Park City invested over $50 million into capital improvements like the Quick Silver Gondola, Miner’s Camp Restaurant, along with additional lift and snowmaking improvements. The most noticeable change is the Quick Silver gondola providing a connection between what was two separate ski resorts. Now under one moniker Canyons and Park City Mountain Resort are simply Park City. Skiers and snowboarders can now make their way from one base area to the other. Many of us have read the stats and have seen the new trail map. It begs the question, is it really possible to ski from one base area to the other and how long would that take? Last weekend the curiosity got the better of me and I started out on an adventure to find out.
My plan was not to just make it from one base area to the other but ski some of my favorite runs and document all the chairs that I took along the way. My Route was: Orange Bubble Express to Sun Peak Express, Sun Peak Express to Tombstone, Tombstone to Ninety-Nine 90 Express, Ninety-Nine 90 Express to Peak 5, Peak 5 to Dreamscape, Dreamscape to Iron Mountain, Iron Mountain to Quicksilver Gondola, Quick Silver Gondola to Silverlode Express, Silverlode Express to Motherlode Express, Motherlode Express to Thaynes, AND finally Thaynes to McConkey’s.
On the way back I took Pioneer to Quicksilver, Quicksilver to Timberline, Timberline to Tombstone Express, Tombstone Express to Saddleback Express, Saddleback Express to Short Cut, Short Cut to Orange Bubble Express for one final run. In total I skied 19,724 vertical feet and it took me about 3.5 hours to ski from the Sun Peak Express to McConkeys and back.

Every family has their own traditions when it comes to the holidays. For many Park City locals traditions usually revolve around skiing, dining, and annual events. Below are some of our favorite family holiday traditions.
Tradition #1: Ski Opening Day- It’s not the ski conditions that matter. It’s the fact that winter is here and you’re back on the snow. Round up your posse and ski a couple runs and kick back and enjoy live music at Park City’s Legacy Lodge or grab a quick drink and fries at the Pig Pen or Corner Store. If you’re dedicated enough try and get the first chair.

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Tradition #2: Ski On Thanksgiving- Forget the Turkey Bowl and go skiing. Take a few runs and work up an appetite for the Annual Thanksgiving Harvest Buffet at Canyons Grand Summit Hotel in the Kokopelli Ballroom. Stuff your belly with Molasses Brined Roast Turkey, High-West Whisky and Maple Glazed Ham, and Herb and Garlic “Emberred” Prime Rib. Try to keep your jaw off the table and give thanks for the opportunity to share a great experience with family and friends.

Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Tradition #3: Attend the Park City Electric Light Parade- Now that Thanksgiving is over, the turkey has been roasted and left overs devoured, the holiday season has begun. The Electric Light Parade signals the start of winter and is a great excuse to decorate your car and have a fun night out on the town. Park City comes alive and offers a great excuse to dine on Main Street. For a great view and a comfortable atmosphere try to get a table near the street level windows at Shabu, Bandits Bar & Grill, or Flanagans.

The event takes place on Saturday, December 19th on the Town Lift Plaza. Beginning at 5 pm there will be plenty of cookies, hot chocolate and holiday cheer to pass around.
