Jill Johnson believes in the power of creativity and play, and as the owner of the popular The Paint Mixer studios in Park City and Salt Lake City’s Sugarhouse neighborhood, she frequently witnesses that power. With a background in art therapy and “a solid appreciation for the art of wine and a great cocktail,” Johnson says, “I love when people arrive in our studio and have not painted since they were a kid. It is amazing to see any individual let go and create.”
Self-described as “the ultimate creative and social venue”, The Paint Mixer offers the opportunity to get together and enjoy painting and sipping wine (21 and over events). All the necessary supplies are provided – canvases, paint, brushes, and aprons! – and skilled instructors guide you step by step through to completion of your own work of art. The Park City studio is conveniently located on lower Main Street and has a changing schedule of painting experiences open to the public, and it’s also available for private parties. Their Van-Go Mobile Studio allows them to go anywhere, for groups of all sizes and ages.
While their team of local artists is continually creating new paintings and projects to offer, some paintings have turned into perpetual favorites. Johnson says, “Our Elephant painting is by far the most popular; we always joke about its ongoing allure to our clients. Following that our Utah landscapes, Cosmos and Van Gogh Starry Night-themed paintings are also sought out. Recently, we added the Big 5 National Utah Parks and those are gaining momentum. Our new acrylic pouring classes are popular as well.”
Their fall lineup just started and includes weekly fall-themed paintings, Halloween-inspired mandala rocks, and flow classes. They have everything from fall mountain scenes to an especially exciting all-ages Halloween Bash the week of Halloween. “Regardless of your age or skill set, we have the perfect creative adventure for you this fall season!” said Johnson.
