Big Stars, Bright Nights | Grace Potter, Rayland Baxter

August 4, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

- $40 - $75

Grace Potter is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and internationally performing rock musician. Citing Miles Davis, Dylan, the Beatles, Bowie, Blondie and Beck as prime examples, Potter says she is drawn to artists who make sonic leaps from record to record—a notion she has explored throughout her career. For an artist who has built a devoted fan base through her electrifying live show, Potter seems hell-bent on breaking out of the box when it comes to studio work. She refuses to be defined by a single genre. Over the last three years, she has seamlessly transitioned from collaborating with the Flaming Lips, for a Tim Burton film, to songwriting and producing for soundtracks and theme songs for film and TV, to multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated country duets with her friend Kenny Chesney, to most recently joining The Rolling Stones on stage for an inspired rendition of “Gimme Shelter.” She has opened for Robert Plant, Dave Matthews Band and the Avett Brothers, played numerous festivals, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Coachella and Rock in Rio, and has collaborated with members of The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, Kenny Chesney and Gov’t Mule.

Rayland Baxter’s songs are a calming force for anyone looking for change, for love, or wanting to walk in a different direction—because it was his own quest for all those things that motivated the music. “I had nothing to write about until I was 25. I had to live through a lot,” he says, “and when I sing I don’t hold back. I’ll cry on stage if I came to it. It’s an emotional release for me, and there’s no makeup on it. It puts me at ease, and that’s what I hope it will do for those who listen.”
