Adapting to the Altitude | Park City Vacations
The town of Park City sits at an elevation of 6980’ above sea level. This is significantly higher than what most visitors are used to. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your vacation in our high altitude playground:
1) Drink as much water as you can. The dry climate and high altitude can leave you dehydrated much quicker than you think. This can lead to unpleasant headaches and fatigue if you don’t stay on top of it. It is especially important to keep the water flowing the first day or two as you acclimatize.
2) Watch your alcohol intake, particularly in the first 24-48 hours. With the excitement of being on vacation some people get carried away during the first couple of nights and pay the price the next day. Alcohol has a greater effect at this elevation, so take it easy and remember to keep hydrating!
3) Use Sunscreen. The air is thinner at this elevation, and the sun’s rays are more intense (less atmosphere to protect you). Be sure to use a healthy dose of sunscreen and apply it often to prevent your skin from getting burned. If you are not careful it is easy to develop a major burn before you even realize it. The face, nose, and lips can be especially vulnerable if not protected while you are out on the snow.
4) Wear Sunglasses. You might think everyone walking around town is just trying to be cool, but sunglasses are important for protecting your eyes from the intensity of the sun’s rays at this elevation.
