Local Biking Trails ~ Park City Mountain Biking

Park City Mountain Resort

Mountain bikers know this to be one of the most appealing regions anywhere for numerous trails at all ability levels.  After the snow has melted and summer graces the mountains, the lifts at Park City open again for people to enjoy quick access to the many hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Park City Mountain Resort boasts over thirty miles of bike trails. Some people like the full workout of riding to the top and riding back down, while others prefer to take the lifts and begin their ride from high elevation.  If you prefer to ride the lift up, you can take the Town Lift right off Main Street, or the PayDay Lift from the base area at the resort and be cruising down a steep mountain trail in no time!

Trail maps are available at the Park City Mountain Resort’s ticket office.  Be sure to pick one up so you don’t miss out on any of the fantastic trails the mountain has to offer.

Canyons Resort

Canyons offers many single track trails ranging from easy to most difficult.  Ride the gondola up to 8,000 feet and ride some of Park City’s most popular trails, Mid-Mountain Trail and Wasatch Crest Trail.

The Best Rides in Park City

Deer Valley Ski Resort
They offer downhill mountain biking on a variety of trails. You can ride the lifts for a fee, or it is free to climb the trails and then ride down them, just make sure you aren’t trying to ride up a popular downhill trail. The gravel access road is usually the best and safest bet to get to the top. From the resort, you can also connect to the Deer Crest Trail and the Park City trail system. Riders of all abilities can enjoy the trails here, but experts will find it particularly enjoyable.

Bike Map

Park City Mid Mountain Trail
Also known as the Eight Thousand Foot Trail, this incredible single track ride will take you from Park City Mountain Resort to the Canyons. The whole ride is approximately 19 miles long, with 3 miles of climbing and 4 miles of downhill. Some sections are rocky and might be challenging for less experienced riders. You will wind in and out of aspen groves and alpine meadows, with occasional glimpses of the valley below. Be sure to bring plenty of food and water, as well as a jacket in case of a storm while on the trail.

Tour des Suds.
This is one of the best mountain biking trails in the area. Most people use the uphill to connect to other trails in Park City or Deer Valley for several classic combinations. There are some technical sections and for that reason this is an upper-intermediate level ride. There are a few new construction projects that have encroached upon the trail, but it’s still a great ride. Expect approximately 14 miles round trip, depending on the variation taken.

Town Loop
Another top notch ride in Park City for upper-intermediate level bikers. Five miles of forested terrain is your reward for the gentle climb at the beginning of the ride. From the high point, you’ll weave through tight aspens and roots, for an exciting mile long section. This trail is in best condition from June to September, don’t miss it!

Best Mountain Bike Rides for Families

Lily Lake at Wolverine Ridge
There are many ATV trails here which offer nice rides for families. The altitude is high making this an ideal summer spot with perfect temperatures. For an easy family ride, try the 2.3-mile dirt road to Lily Lake. Take a map when visiting this area because the trails wind through dense forest and there aren’t many easily identifiable landmarks. With all the different options, it is possible to piece together several different loops over the course of several visits.

North Fork Scenic Byway
Check out the beautiful and wild Uinta Mountains!  This is a relatively new trail in the Unita Mountains, with very little elevation change over the three-mile trek. You’ll pass through open meadows and have great views of the Provo River. This trail gets a lot of sun and can be rode all the way into November, depending on snowfall.

Rail Trail

This broad trail has multiple access points along its 30 miles which allow you to customize your ride. This was a railroad line at one time so it is fairly flat, broad and perfect for the family.  It is, however, a gentle downhill grade going east towards the Echo Reservoir so you want to be sure you do not end up tired, too far away, and not ready for the uphill return.  Many bikers like to arrange for a vehicle pick-up at the eastern end of the trail so they can enjoy the relaxing descent toward Coalville.  For some of its length, the rail trail passes along the shores of Echo Reservoir, and you can stop to play in the water if it is a hot day!
