My Ideal Christmas Day

Posted in Park City, The Canyons Resort | No Comments »

I know that a lot of people think that being indoors before the roaring fire is the way to spend a wintry snowy holiday….. but my ideal is a day of skiing or boarding, which is THEN followed by the roaring fire and apres ski with friends and family!

Yesterday was a fine day at all of the area resorts, and I decided to enjoy myself at The Canyons Resort.  One little secret that most people don’t know is that Christmas morning and also the morning of New Year’s Day are actually great times to hit the slopes (if you are capable of getting out the door) because the slopes are pretty empty.  By mid-day there are more people but it still never gets crowded at our local resorts.

Yesterday at The Canyons I never waited for a lift at all!  Either I skied right to the lift or at most there were 2-3 chairs worth of people in front of me and we all moved steadily right onto the chairs.  Love this life!!

No, I was not one of the Skiing Santas, alas, but maybe I can sign on for that duty next year:

Big Snow in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains!

YES!!  We are enjoying awesome powder days with exceptional snow conditions.  Northern Utah’s resorts all received 30 to 40 inches of delightful powdery snow in the most recent storm.  More ski terrain is opening up every day as avalanche and safety control work is completed on the steeper terrain.  Lots more snow is projected for the coming days, so all resort terrain should be open well before Christmas.
