Major Winter Snowstorm Hitting Utah’s Mountains!

Posted in Media, Park City, Ski Conditions | No Comments »

As a major winter storm blows into our fabulous Wasatch Mountains this weekend, we are getting out skis and boards, cleaning and waxing, checking gear and clothing…. oh, and enjoying some day dreams of last year’s fabulous powder with this video, courtesy of Ski Utah and Ride Utah.  It’s November, it’s snowing hard, and it’s time for another great 6 month season of powder paradise!

Park City Lodging Featured in Prominent Travel Story

The Sydney Morning Herald is a prominent newspaper in Australia.  While some North Americans may not know it, Australia is home to large numbers of snow sport enthusiasts.  Since their southern hemisphere ski season occurs during our summer, many Aussies love to travel to North America during their own “summer” vacations to try the great snowy slopes here.  So we were pleased but not really surprised when the SMH dispatched their #1 travel writer to explore the on and off slope delights at the #1 ski resort in North America, Deer Valley!  We were also pleased but not surprised that said travel writer was delighted to lodge in two different properties with Park City Lodging, Inc. (splitting the week to experience different locations and types of properties).

The resulting article is linked below.  Park City Lodging, Inc. is recommended near the end of the article as the source for vacation rental selection in this area.  While the snowboarders among us cannot endorse the praise of ski slopes without shredders (at Deer Valley), we do know that some timid skiers do not like to be outclassed on the slopes by hot shredders (a joke folks, we were bullied into adding that little remark to add some “balance” to the subject when Deer Valley’s no-boarding policy is mentioned).  Here is the article singing the praises of Deer Valley and the entire Park City area:

September 30 may seem a surprising date for a snowstorm, but yesterday the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains were blanketed by a beautiful layer of the kind of stuff that is worshipped by winter sports enthusiasts everywhere:  fresh powdery snow!!

It’s a wee bit early to start the official ski season but it sure is inspiring us locals to begin pulling out our gear to gaze at it longingly…… and it sure does excite ski and snowboard devotees around the country and around the world who know that Utah powder is beyond compare.

NBC’s Natalie Morales Features Park City’s US Athletes

NBC’s Natalie Morales Gets Big Air at Utah’s Olympic Sports Park

Park City is home to many of the top US winter sports athletes, which is not too surprising considering that the US Ski and Snowboard teams are based in Park City, Utah!  NBC’s Today Show featured a nice segment this week in which Natalie Morales visited Park City to meet with some of the national team athletes, dance with them, and try a quick training session to take on the ski jumps at Utah’s Winter Sports Park.  Fortunately, beneath these huge jumps is a nice landing in an aerated pool (the airflow from the bottom of the pool makes the water landings less brutal on the legs and body).

Check out this video on the NBC website to see Natalie take in some fun Park City moments.  She proved herself a real “trooper” in learning to try jumps that many people would not go near….. and she got to feature some of America’s top athletes on the Today Show!
